Matthys Daniel Maartens 
Matthys was born on May 17th, 1884 and his baptism took place on July 13th, 1884 in Cradock. He died from a heart attack at the age of 59 on February 3rd, 1944 in in the veld on Mosterdshoek, Tarka District. He was buried in Sterkstroom Main Cemetary.General Notes

Our congratulations to the brothers Danie MAARTENS of Wenfontein, and Hendrik MAARTENS, garage proprietor, on entering the ranks of the Benedicts. The latter's wedding was celebrated at Bloemfontein while the nuptials of Mr. Danie MAARTENS were the occasion of quite a large gathering of friends and well-wishers at the D.R. Church on Monday, the bride being Miss Gwendoline (Gwennie) VAN WYK, of "Envy," a young lady well-known in this district.
