He had the loanfarm De Draaij and the "rekwesplaas" Hylgertskloof, Bruintjieshoogte in Somerset on his name. Probably trekked in 1837. Group unknown, but probably a family trek that joined another group later. They crossed Stormbergspruit and crossed Orange river at Melkspruit between Stormbergspruit en Buffelsvlei (now Aliwal North) Decalration of labourer Esau, 9/12/1837 and included in Ziervogel - H. Hudson, 20/12/1837, pp 136-137, KAB; De V, p 940.
