Hester was born on February 22nd, 1896. Hester's father was Hendrik Joachim Grobbelaar and her mother is Hester Christina Jansen. Her paternal grandparents were Albertus Stephanus Grobbelaar and Susanna Elizabeth Martens. She had three brothers and a sister, named Matthys, David, Martin and Johanna. She was the second youngest of the five children. She had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Albertus, Nicolaas, Nicolaas, Hendrik, Anna, Susanna and Martha. Hester is no longer alive.-
