Paul was born on April 6th, 1824. Paul's father was Hendrik Petrus Jansen van Rensburg and his mother was Jacomina Jacoba Martens. His paternal grandparents were David Jansen van Rensburg and Elsie Sophia Burger; his maternal grandparents were Joachim Hendrik Martens and Hendrina Magdalena van der Merwe. He had six brothers and five sisters, named David, Hendrik, Barend, Daniel, Petrus, Willem, Hendrina, Elsje, Jacomina, Anna and Louisa. He was the fifth youngest of the twelve children.General Notes
