David Schalk Maartens 
David's father was Willem Jacobus Maartens and his mother was Maria Susanna van der Merwe. His paternal grandparents were Joachim Hendrik Martens and Hendrina Magdalena van der Merwe. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Louw, Johannes, Willem, Hester and Hendrina. He had two half-brothers named Joachim and Dawid.General Notes
