Jan Thomas “Tommie” Martens

Jan , known as Tommie, was born on May 15th, 1829 and his christening took place on August 16th, 1829 in Somerset East. Tommie's father was Jan Thomas(1) Martens and his mother was Anna Maria Isabella Coetzee. His paternal grandparents were Jacobus Martens and Maria Magdalena Joubert; his maternal grandparents were Cornelis Jacobus Coetzee and Maria Sibella Swanepoel. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Jacobus, Basheesa, Joshua, Johannes, Hendrik, Johannes , Hendrik, Maria, Anna, Maria, Martha, Elisabetta and Gertruida. He died at the age of 81 on June 8th, 1910 in Highbury, Ixopo. He was buried in Highbury, Greytown / Ixopodist..
