Maartje (Maartje) Aletta Hendrina van der Merwe (Martha) 
Maartje, known as Maartje, was born about 1808 in Graaff Reinet and her baptism took place there on June 19th, 1808. Maartje's father was Isaac van der Merwe and her mother was Elsie Johanna van Heerden. Her paternal grandparents were David Schalk van der Merwe and Anna Maria Pretorius; her maternal grandparents were Roelof van Heerden and Martha Sophia Pretorius. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Dawid, Isaac, Willem, Roelof, Isaac, Martha, Anna, Elsie and Anna. She was the second youngest of the ten children. She died on August 21st, 1871 in in her house, Wodehouse District..-
