Gladys was born on January 28th, 1907 in Zastron.  Gladys' father was George Philippus van Heyningen (Stephanus) and her mother was Mabel (May) Constance Higgs.  Her maternal grandparents were William Edward Higgs and Cornelia Jones. She had four brothers and four sisters, named George, William, Petrus, Simon, Boudina, Christina, Ethyl and Johanna.  She died at the age of 65 on July 26th, 1972.
