William (Willie) Charles Higgs

William, known as Willie, was born on May 25th, 1874 in Wepener.  Willie's father was William Edward Higgs and his mother was Cornelia Jones.  His paternal grandparents were William Charles Higgs and Catherine Emily Austen. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named Clement, Jock, Claude, Bertie, May, Ethel, Alice, Gladys, Ida, Bertha, Harry and Irene .  He was the oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 70 on December 21st, 1944 in Aliwal North.
