Albertus was born on October 23rd, 1887 in "Biesiespan", Hoopstad and his baptism took place on December 4th, 1887 in Bultfontein. Albertus' father was Joachim Hendrik Maartens and his mother was Catharina Magdalena van Wyngaardt. His paternal grandparents were Albertus Stephanus Rudolf Martens and Jane Younger; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus van Wijngaard and Johanna Susanna Loots (Elizabeth Magdalena). He had six brothers and four sisters, named Johannes, John, Jan, Matthys, Joachim, George, Johanna, Jane, Catharina and Anna. He was the second oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 14 on January 17th, 1902 in Bloemfontein Concentration Camp.Death Notes
