Carel van der Merwe 
Carel was born on March 29th, 1774 and his baptism took place on May 29th, 1774. Carel's father was David Schalk van der Merwe and his mother was Anna Maria Pretorius. His paternal grandparents were David Willemse van der Merwe and Hendrina Gosjens; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Lodewicus Pretorius and Anna Sophia Botha. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Dawid, Johannes, Willem, Roelof, Isaac, Paulus, Hendrik, Hendrina and Hester. He was the second youngest of the ten children. He died at the age of 26 in 1800.Death Notes
