Dawid Schalk van der Merwe 
Dawid was born on April 19th, 1761 and his baptism took place on April 26th, 1761 in Tulbach. Dawid's father was David Schalk van der Merwe and his mother was Anna Maria Pretorius. His paternal grandparents were David Willemse van der Merwe and Hendrina Gosjens; his maternal grandparents were Johannes Lodewicus Pretorius and Anna Sophia Botha. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Johannes, Willem, Roelof, Isaac, Paulus, Carel, Hendrik, Hendrina and Hester. He was the oldest of the ten children.-
