Hendrik Joachim Maartens 
Hendrik was born on November 9th, 1892 and his baptism took place on December 18th, 1892 in Cedarville. Hendrik's father was Abraham Lourens Daniel Maartens and his mother was Zachryda Catharina de Bruin. His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Joachim Maartens and Elizabeth Magdalena van Jaarsveld; his maternal grandparents were Pieter Philippus Nicolaas de Bruin and Johanna Maria Magdalena van der Merwe. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Abraham, David, Pieter, Johanna, Magdalena, Zachryda, Elizabeth and Petronella. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Stephan, Adriaan and Helena. He died from cancer, Stomach cancer, at the age of 60 on January 13th, 1953 in Pietermaritzburg.General Notes
