Adriaan Louwrens Albertus Maartens 
Adriaan was born on November 17th, 1883 and his baptism took place on January 6th, 1884 in Barkley East. Adriaan's father was Adriaan Lowrens Albertus Maartens and his mother was Aletta (Hannie) Johanna Magdalena van der Merwe. His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Joachim Maartens and Elizabeth Magdalena van Jaarsveld; his maternal grandparents were David Frederik van der Merwe (Stephanus) and Sagryda Catharina van Dyk. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Joachim, David, Matthys, <Unknown>, Johannes, Nicolaas, Catharina, Elizabeth, Aletta, Anna and Nellie. He was the sixth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 71 on October 18th, 1955.General Notes
