Catharina Zacharia Maartens (Zachryda) 
Catharina was born on December 3rd, 1873 and her baptism took place on March 15th, 1874 in Barkley East. Catharina's father was Adriaan Lowrens Albertus Maartens and her mother was Aletta (Hannie) Johanna Magdalena van der Merwe. Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Joachim Maartens and Elizabeth Magdalena van Jaarsveld; her maternal grandparents were David Frederik van der Merwe (Stephanus) and Sagryda Catharina van Dyk. She had seven brothers and four sisters, named Joachim, David, Adriaan, Matthys, <Unknown>, Johannes, Nicolaas, Elizabeth, Aletta, Anna and Nellie. She was the oldest of the twelve children.
